Science Museums for Year Round Family Fun

Fun Science for Kids I love science museums! They are a great source of family fun and help kids (and kids at heart) understand why science is so amazing. Learning is never more exciting that at one of these amazing children’s museums. I became convinced about this when we had spent about 3 hours at a science and technology center and my 6 year old son, begged me, “Please, Mommy can we play here longer?” He said PLAY. I thought he was being educated; he thought he was playing. I went to the front desk and purchased a family membership.

Science museums easily offer the most enjoyable way for children to learn. They can even be cheap family fun when you join as a member. Membership will cost between $50 and $80 per year for a family. Depending on the size of your family, this can be the same as the price of admission for one or two visits. Members then get free admission to the museum for a year and discounts at the gift shops.

However, the real value of membership comes with the reciprocity between museums. The ASSOCIATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTERS is a worldwide group of participating centers and membership to one gives you free admission to all the others. This means that you pay once and get the benefits for a year! This is very useful when you are on vacation or out of town. Most cities we visit have a participating museum nearby.

The one factor to be aware of is the museums within a 90 mile radius of your museum of membership are exempt. This means that they do not have to offer you free admission. Keep this in mind. If you can join a museum that is 90 miles away from other museums you will have a greater selection.

Visit the website for more information on their SCIENCE MUSEUMS. It explains the program and gives a list of all the participating science centers. They also have links that take you to each museum's website. Learn why science centers are the children’s museums that are not just for children.
