Homekeeping and the Perfect Mom

Homekeeping and the Perfect Mom

Rather than housekeeping, I prefer to involve myself in "homekeeping". And what exactly is homekeeping? For me it is:

Creating a home environment for my family that I feel good about.

I think that sums it up and by this definition it will be different for everyone. Effective homekeeping seems to be about creating a household in which you can put the most energy toward what is most important.

For some, it may mean a spotless, well organized home because this is important to you and something you want your children to value.

Other moms may prefer an easy-going atmosphere with lots of creative expression, and little concern for housecleaning.

Most of us fall somewhere among the endless possibilities in between.

Many of us put pressure on ourselves to do things the “right way” to be the “perfect mom”. But I must tell you that you will never be the perfect mom, because that woman does not exist. And that one right way that we are trying to find, well it is different for everyone, so you will never find that either.

What you can be is perfectly you, and who you are is the perfect mom for your children. Embrace this and you will be giving yourself and your family the priceless gift of JOY. Effective homekeeping requires that you honor what is important to you.

Homekeeping and the Not-So-Perfect-Mom
What makes homekeeping most effective is giving up the idea of being a perfect mom and learning to be you. Take a closer look at what you want, what you value and what you have, to figure this out.

Housecleaning for the Less-than-Perfect Mom
Homekeeping, for me, means cutting corners and taking shortcuts in every area of my homes upkeep. Here is a partial list of ways that I have found to get away with doing less housecleaning.

Song For a Fifth Child
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow… For those of us who would rather play with our children than clean our house, Ruth Hulburt Hamilton’s stunning poem states our case very nicely.
